ghost decor tutorial

i know halloween is only 3 days away, but if you need a quick little something to help ya decorate your yard here ya go...

ready for the easiest, cutest little ghost men you've ever seen?! lol

it's so easy, even the little kids can help out!!

supplies:
some white fabric
lollipop sticks
sharpie
1.5" styrofoam balls {originally $4.50 at michael's}
scissors
hot glue gun
hot glue sticks
twine

tutorial:

stick a lollipop stick in the styrofoam ball {you can secure it with some hot glue if you want.}

cut a piece of white fabric, about 7"x7", and cover the styrofoam ball with it. use some twine to tie the fabric in place.

 use a sharpie to draw a little ghost face. you can get as creative as you would like with this part :)

adorable...

and you can do whatever you would like with them.

like spook-ify your yard, scatter them throughout the lawn, stick 'em in your planters...

i know, scary huh?

felt flower pillow tutorial

do you remember this chair i reupholstered a few months ago?! labor of love, i tell ya :)

it's in my master bedroom now, and was in need of a pillow. a purple pillow to be exact...

{i can't find exactly where i saw this idea, but when i find it i will link to it!!}

here's what you'll need:

16" pillow form {any would work, these measurements are for a 16" though}
1 piece of felt 17 1/4 x 17 1/4
2 pieces of felt 17 1/4 x 10 1/2
3 sheets of felt {i think they are 8 1/2 x 11}
 sharpie
hot glue gun & hot glue

first, lay your square piece of felt down with the other two pieces on top. the edges should match up and the middle will overlap {make sense?!} like this picture {but flat, lol! i just did this help explain myself.}

 sew all the way around the four edges with 5/8" seams.

before turning it right side out, clip the corners like the picture below, to get rid of some of the extra felt.

turn your pillow case right side out and use a sharpie to trace something that is the size you want your flower to be.

next, cut out a TON of felt circles. about 50 2" circles. then cut them in half.

then, start hot gluing them around the circle you drew.

continue doing this, making a smaller circle each time, until you get to the middle.

 once you get to the middle, make about 6-8 'cones' {lol, technical term, i know!} following these directions...

hot glue your 'cones' to the center of your flower, and your done!

cute, huh? i like it, lol!

Cutting Edge Stencils Review and Giveaway!!

i have been waiting for this day for quite some time now, and i am so glad i can finally share this project with you! if you're a follower and have been reading for a little while now, you know that i haven't done much with my master bedroom! until now! {i still have a long ways to go} but it looks lovely and i'm so excited about it!

i really wanted to wallpaper the one wall my bed is on to create a focal point in the room, but i couldn't find wallpaper i liked at a price that i liked too!

well, my problem was solved when i learned about Cutting Edge Stencils!!

they have so many different options, including all over stencils that look like wallpaper for a fraction of the cost!!

i loved the idea because it would go up a lot easier than wallpaper and can also be painted over very easily if the need ever arises in the future and i can use it over and over again!

it came very well packaged and with very detailed instructions to achieve a great look.

i followed them as closely as possible and couldn't be happier with the result!

my biggest tips would be:

-secure your stencil to the wall well. this will prevent it from slipping and sliding while you're trying to paint.

-use a very small amount of paint on your roller. a few times i started to get lazy and used too much and that's when the paint started to bleed under the stencil. as long as you use a small amount and just go over it a few times it will look great!

-use a level frequently!

-use a dense foam roller with rounded edges!!

-to help ensure that i was staying level, i would cover part of the last stencil i just did, with the next one. {does that make sense?!} like the below picture. the left side is already painted from the previous position of the stencil. so, i had to secure my stencil to the wall a few more times than i would have, but it was worth it to me to try and help me stay level.

almost half way done!!
{i left a small gap on the top because it was easier to use the stencil this way and i'm planning on doing crown molding anyway...one day, hehe. but the stencil does bend so you can do corners!}

and here is what it looks like now!! i couldn't be happier with the result!

and for you lucky followers...cutting edge stencils is giving one of you any stencil of your choice up to a $40 value!!!!

so, go check out their website HERE and leave a comment telling me which stencil you would get and where you would use it!

giveaway ends saturday, october 30 at 9pm est! goodluck :)
