Hello! I'm Stacey and I blog over at
Whatever is Lovely about crafting, decorating, and life as a newlywed.
Blog-land is where I get
and share lots and lots of inspiration, which is why I'm a B I G fan of a little lovely! I am beyond thrilled that she is featuring one of my tutorials. Plus, these flower pins would make a great homemade last minute Christmas gift! Wait, what? You never procrastinate when buying Christmas gifts? Oh... uh, neither do I. Nope, definitely not.
Anyways, hope you enjoy!
Remember
this?
Here's how to make a fabric flower pin just like the one above! It's super easy, takes maybe 20 minutes, and doesn't involve sewing. Oh, and it's addicting. Seriously, I have way more flower pins then I have sweaters to pin them to.
First, your supplies:
- fabric for flower
- felt (or something else heavy for the back of the flower)
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- pin
Cut out one circle for the back of the flower. I like to use felt. Make it about half the diameter of what you want your finished flower to be.
Cut out nine circles from your fabric. If you're making a big enough flower, you might need more. Lay the felt circle on top to make sure there will be enough overlap, since you don't want the felt to show when you're done.
To make the petals, fold a circle in half, then in thirds. It shouldn't be perfect. I think it looks better when it's not, anyways.
Snip off a little bit of the corner, so you can get hot glue on all the layers.
Put some hot glue on the tip and stick it to the center of your felt circle. Do this four times, so you have four petals equally spaced around the felt circle.
Glue on four more petals between the first four you did, like this:
Almost done! Except... there will be a hole smack dab in the middle of your flower. Take the ninth circle, make a petal, and glue it straight down into the middle of your flower to fill in that gap. Here's where you may need more petals if your flower is too big.
Here's what the back will look like:
I like to take my glue gun and secure more of the pieces down to the felt circle, just to make it more secure.
Then glue your pin to the back:
And you're done! Pin it on your purse, sweater, or whatever.
Happy crafting!
thanks stacey!! these are fabulous, i can't wait to get all my scrap fabric out and make some of these!!
